Description
What it is
Roof Stickers carry a unit number in large digits on the roof of a cab or trailer so it can be read from above — by a drone, a helicopter, a yard camera or a gantry. Fleets, rental yards and emergency and utility operators use roof number decals to match what an overhead view shows to a unit in their records. They come printed in full color on cast vinyl or cut from single-color vinyl, laminated against standing water, and are priced per sticker.
Where roof numbers are used
Roof marking follows your own operation's convention, or the specification of the site or agency you work with. If you have been given a size, color or placement to follow, send it with the order and the layout is confirmed on the proof. A common approach is to repeat the number already on the doors, so a unit can be matched between a ground view and an overhead view.

How far away a number can be read depends on its size and on contrast with the roof, so choose the largest panel you can fit and a color that stands apart from the roof color. We cannot promise a reading distance.
Printed or cut vinyl
Car Vinyl is the default: full-color print on cast vinyl, laminated, with options for Shape Die-Cut, Rounded Corners and Reflective film. Single Color is cut from single-color vinyl in 13 standard colors — a solid color that will not fade unevenly, a good fit when the number is one color on a plain roof.
Why it holds up
The roof takes sun, rain and standing water, so both the printed and the cut option are laminated against standing water, and the cut option is a solid piece of film rather than printed ink. Reflective film is available on the printed option if the number needs to read in light at night, and Rounded Corners keep the edge from lifting.

How to apply
Install from a safe position: use a platform or lift, and do not stand on a wet or unsupported roof. Vinyl holds best on a clean, smooth, dry surface.
- Wash the surface with soap and water, then wipe it with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely — any wax, dust or grease under the vinyl will shorten how long it holds.
- Work in a shaded spot between about 60 and 90 degrees F. Direct sun makes the adhesive grab too fast; cold makes it grab too slowly.
- Peel back a corner of the backing paper and tack the decal in place to confirm the position before committing.
- Use a strip of painter's tape as a hinge at the top so the decal stays aligned while you peel away the rest of the backing paper.
- Squeegee from the center outward in overlapping passes to push air out toward the edges, not trap it in the middle.
- Press down any edges or corners that did not fully bond, working from the center out.
- If a small air bubble remains, prick it with a pin and press it flat — do not try to squeegee a large bubble out through the edge.
- Give the adhesive time to cure — avoid washing for at least 48 hours after installation.
Removal and care
Warm the film with a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting, then peel it back slowly at a low angle rather than straight up — heat keeps the vinyl from tearing into small pieces. Any adhesive left behind comes off with an adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol, then a regular wash. Rinse standing water and dirt off the roof now and then so the number stays readable from above.
